A blind or semi-blind world

These young boys and girls are poor, some of them abandoned, other live in refugee camps, and not only that they are also blind. A triple jeopardy in an unjust world. With some exceptions, they lost their sight in the places where they live very possibly by a curable disease. A group of albino children with a very limited vision share a classroom with these completely blind children in Tika Village in the outskirts of Nairobi in a private school. They receive classes from teachers who are also blind or with poor vision.

These images aim to reunite us with a group of children that are united by the same tragedy and the same joy. By love and awful things. With these pictures, I want to use a simple visual grammar at the intersection of ethical values, discretion and a moral act.

Photos that reveal the value of the everyday hidden life. Images that are the time of special people and the people in special times.

One of the greatest troubling aspects of today’s world is that real situations, real circumstances and real realities that happen in other corners of the planet or in the confines of our existence are peripheral to us. They occur outside our realm of thinking and concerns. Unnoticed, as they are, we relegate them to the fringes of our attention.
